Whenever I hear people calling people who sew "sewers" this is what I think of.
Perhaps it was all my years working on the road crew.
I had to crawl down a few of these and thaw them out or use a gigantic hose attached to the "sucker truck to clean them out

But really I think they're works of art.

Apparenty I'm not the only one that like to take photos of manhole covers.
There's a facebook page dedicated to "Sewers of the World"
You'll find some great photos there too.
What a cool collection, Kim!
ReplyDeleteI think I have more on my husband's memory chip too. I need to go through them.
DeleteAbsolutely beautiful...like you said works of art...some look like labyrinths.
ReplyDeleteNow I'm beginning to see that I'm not the only one who likes them.
DeleteHow funny That you posted this, I thought I was one of only a few who crazies who took photos of street covers. And now I found another street cover person just one town over from me !
ReplyDeleteI have posted about the covers from Japan off and on over the years. In fact I just posted on them on 7 March and even today one was in my post.
They are truly works of art in Japan from the fabulous beautiful to the charming funny !
Great post today and you have some really wonderful covers in your photo collection.

I'll have to go check it out and see what the Japanese ones look like.
DeleteOh yes!!!!!! I've loved sewer covers since I was a kid and we were taken out of school to rub the designs onto paper with wax crayons. Might have to go out hunting in a minute!!
ReplyDeleteWe never did that but I had heard of old gravestone rubbings in New England
DeleteI am laughing because I have always loved these too, Wish I had some to put into a patio.
ReplyDeleteI even had one small kind of cover that I got from my old job that they were throwing out. I gave it to a sculptor and got in trouble with my boss and the sculptor never used it either.
Deletewow what a great collection ... yes i do love them and they are circular works of art... x

I never saw many in Asia except for that one by the Ganges. The old Europe ones are some of my favorites by the cobblestones.
DeleteI too am drawn to manhole covers of all things..guess I am always looking down for textures when I am walking.. and you have some wonderful examples here.. from all over the world.

ReplyDeleteThese are like works of art...I loved seeing the old covers when we were in New Orleans! People would steal them!
ReplyDeletePhew! With all the travelling you do, you must see quite a variety. It must be a fun hobby... as long as you don't fall down any holes.
ReplyDeleteyes it is good to be looking down all the time in some places. Their can be very uneven sidewalks.
DeleteWow, those are fabulous photos! I am going to have to look more closely at the manhole covers I come across! They are so cool!
ReplyDeleteNice. Funny, I have lots of photos of the (very nice) sewer covers in older parts of New Orleans but have never thought to look at them elsewhere. I'll keep my eyes open in the future!

Hi, what a surprise to 'meet' somebody also attracted to manhole covers (thanks for the word). I thought I was the only crazy person making photos of those things.
